CLEAN AIR SOLUTIONS FOR INDOOR USE - ΛΥΣΕΙΣ ΓΙΑ ΚΑΘΑΡΟ ΑΕΡΑ ΣΕ ΕΣΩΤΕΡΙΚΟΥΣ ΧΩΡΟΥΣ

 

Due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, it is considered necessary to apply protective solutions, to prevent the spread of the virus through the HVAC system of a building. There are two main ways for the virus to be spread, via droplets/particles emitted when sneezing or coughing or talking, or via surface contact.

 

According to REHVA (REHVA COVID-19 guidance document, April 3, 2020), air transmission can be divided into two categories:

 

1) Close contact transmission through large droplets (> 10 microns): The droplets are released from the infected person directly towards others, or land on surfaces on which people will touch and then transfer to their bodies through their mouth, nose or eyes.

 

2) Airborne transmission through small particles (< 5 microns): The particles may stay airborne for hours and can be transported long distances. These are also generated by coughing and sneezing and talking. The size of a coronavirus particle is 80-160 nanometre, and it remains active for many hours or a couple of days (unless there is specific cleaning). SARS-CoV-2 remains active up to 3 hours in indoor air and 2-3 days on room surfaces at common indoor conditions. Such small virus particles stay airborne and can travel long distances carried by airflows in the rooms or in the extract air ducts of ventilation systems.
